Two things to ♥

...Singing in the rain? Well no, not quite. But I'd be in a much better mood braving the current L.A. "storms" were I armed with this cheery umbrella  by Cath Kidston. It has primary coloured airplanes on it!

Less than six weeks as the mother of a boy and I'm already looking at toy tow trucks! ...But isn't this vintage-y toddler-mobile just darling?

Thursday evening already, time flies! Xx

...That I have a husband who understands the importance of bringing home pretty flowers for no other reason than that they make me smile...

...That I have a sweet baby boy who - at least last night - understood the importance of letting his mama sleep from midnight 'til 5am, and then again from 5.30 am 'til 9am...

...That I have a puppy dog who (after some practising) now understands the importance of being very gentle around said sleeping baby boy...*

* (Serious smugness alert on this post, I know... But some days are just too good not to brag about. :)  And to top it off, it's Friday - yay!)

Have a good one, all. Xx

One Month Old (yesterday)

...And to celebrate, Noah decided to treat me to his first couple of smiles "on demand". :) In the early mornings, after he has had his breakfast, he is usually in a great mood and likes to hang out in the big bed with me for an hour or so, before going back to sleep. Today I caught this 8am ritual on camera; the little man is already quite the conversationalist, can you tell?

Quote of Note and a little March Fashion Talk

"It was one of those March days when the sun shines hot and the wind blows cold: when it is summer in the light, and winter in the shade."
Charles Dickens

...And when it's neigh on impossible to know how one ought to dress: your winter clothes feel heavy, your spring clothes too light...
Enter the new hemline of 2011 -  Mid calf. Frumpy you say? Well, it certainly could be, and perhaps it used to be, synonymous with bulky tweed and thick, tan nylon stockings. But take a quick look at the lovely compositions below, and I'm sure you'll agree that styled like this, mid calf skirts feel pretty and fresh, and just about perfect for "one of those March days"...

Pretty sophistication from Chloe, made extra wearable with ballet flats.

Narciso Rodriguez. Casual elegance perfected.
Love the nude and black colour combo.

Happy Weekend all, hope you have something cheerful planned? I'm staying in today, thinking I would get some things done around the house, like laundry... And later, because Noah finally lost his umbilical cord stump this morning, I'm giving baby his first real bath! He really enjoys foot rubs, so tonight when he's all clean and cosy, we will try a full body massage, using the deliciously sweet smelling  Sweetleaf baby Lotion from Thymes (thanks Christi!), that I've been saving for this very special occasion. :)

See you next week, when I fully plan on finally divulging our birth story... Xx

Weekend Walk

After a few weeks of cold(ish) L.A. weather, Saturday brought sunshine and springtime temps, so we took Noah out for a  long stroll along the canal and beach in Marina del Rey. It was so nice;  fragrant flowers everywhere, birds singing and a beautiful sunset over Santa Monica bay...

Remember my post on Petunia Picklebottom?
I couldn't resist getting Noah's diaper bag from there and so far I'm very happy with the purchase; it looks cute on the stroller, has lots of spacious pockets inside and a clever, stain resistant wax coating to protect the outside fabric.

First "family portrait" :)
A white heron looking for dinner.

It may be my fifth year in LA.,  but this view never gets old.

On our way home, we stopped at Babies "R" Us to pick up a "My Little Lamb" seat (notice the ears) for Noah. It took some persuasion, but in the end, he (thankfully) decided he quite liked this vibrating, music playing, fluffy chillaxing spot for babies...

Wishing you a lovely week ahead. Xx

Baby Mama

...As I'm discovering what life with a newborn is all about, my biggest realisation is that there simply isn't enough time in the day. Not enough time for things like reading the paper, or cleaning the kitchen, or chatting on the phone, or blow drying my hair... or blogging. Instead, the hours seem to evaporate in a whirlwind of feeding, burping, changing, shushing and cuddling the baby. (I also spend a lot of time thinking about when I will get a chance to sleep next; never did a nap seem so alluring - or elusive...)

So yes, it's been tiring because it's so different from what I'm used to and I'm adjusting to a whole new schedule, but I would lie if I said I didn't still treasure every minute (well, almost) of motherhood so far. I don't have much in terms of comparison, and of course I am biased, but Noah has turned out to be one sweet little babe with a lovely two week old personality that seems to develop daily in front of our eyes. He has a million different facial expressions depending on his mood, the most darling dimple in his left cheek when he smiles (I know that they say it's only gas, but I choose not to believe that), a totally heart breaking quiver of his chin when he is extra sad and the cutest raspy whiskey voice when he "talks". Oh, and he also likes to nuzzle his little face in the nape of my neck which I just love... People told me this in advance, but never in a million years did I think I would spend hours just gazing in amazement at his sleeping little face...

Siesta in the pram.

Hanging out on the changing table, sporting vintage H&M.
My mum thoughtfully kept some of our old baby clothes from the 70s,
thinking they might come in handy again some day...

Ps. It may seem like it, but I actually haven't stopped caring about things like fashion, beauty and interior design. So if you are someone who likes to read this blog because you share my interest in such things, don't give up on me me, I fully intend to return to those subjects very soon. - It's just that for right now, I've mostly got baby on my mind...}
